Abstract:
PURPOSE:To efficiently obtain a caustic alkali by electrolysis without the current efficiency, etc., being decreased by the ion-exchange membrane method using an aq. alkali metal chloride soln. CONSTITUTION:An aq. caustic alkali soln. 8 is circulated through a cathode compartment 3, and the difference in caustic alkali concn. between a cathode compartment outlet 14 and a cathode compartment inlet 13 is controlled to <=30g/l. Further, the pressure in the aq. caustic soda soln. on the oxygen cathode 6 side is made higher than the pressure on the oxygen-contg. gas side so that the difference in pressure between the aq. caustic soda soln. side and the oxygen- contg. gas side is controlled to 5000 to 10<6>Pa.
