Title:
ELECTROMAGNETIC STIRRING METHOD FOR MOLTEN STEEL IN MOLD IN CONTINUOUS CASTING PLANT
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5775267
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a sound product of superior surface characteristics free from internal segregation by providing an electromagnetic strirrer within a specific range from the meniscus of the molten steel in a mold.

CONSTITUTION: An electromagnetic stirrer 2 is installed within a 400mm, more preferably 200mm range from the meniscus of the molten steel in a mold 1 in a continuous casting plant, and while horizontal rotating velocity of flow is given to the molten steel in the mold 1 by means of the stirrer 2, the molten steel is cast continuously. The rate of growth of dendrite is high and fine dendrite forms in the molten steel near the meniscus, but since the molten steel is electromagnetically stirred, a large amt. of fine dendrite arms are cut and the micronuclei of isometric crystal grains contributing to the good solidification of an ingot are formed in a large amt., whereby the product ingot of superior internal quality is obtained.
