Title:
ELECTROMAGNETIC ULTRASONIC FLAW DETECTION APPARATUS AND METHOD USING MAGNETIC STRAIN EFFECT
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3299505
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electromagnetic ultrasonic flaw detection apparatus which can save an elimination work for scales before measurements, has a superior durability without a mechanical vibration part, and can accurately detect a minute internal defect.
SOLUTION: This electromagnetic ultrasonic flaw detection apparatus has a probe 13 which is provided with a permanent magnet 22 or an electromagnet for applying a constant bias magnetic field in a direction nearly perpendicular to a surface layer 20 including magnetic components of a material 11, a thickness or an internal defect 12 of which is to be detected, and a transmitting- detecting coil 21 which applies a changing magnetic field to the surface layer part 20, thereby generating pulses of ultrasonic waves, and detects a change of a strain of the surface layer part 20 because of reflecting echoes of the ultrasonic waves as a change of the magnetic field.
