PURPOSE: To provide an electromagnet, which has the characteristics of a high- sensitivity performance, which is operated by the input of small electricity, and has superior attraction force characteristics without noise.

CONSTITUTION: In an electromagnet having a structure, wherein a coil 2 and a permanent magnet 5 are coaxially provided side by side, magnetic poles 6, 7 and 8 are provided on the inner surface of a cylinder and the electromagnet has a moving core 9 which faces two surfaces only out of three surfaces of magnetic pole surfaces 6, 7 and 8, when a current is not made to flow through the coil 2, the core 9 faces the surfaces 7 and 8 by the magnetomotive force of the magnet 5 and is stabilized in a state that it does not oppose to the surface 6 and when a current is made to flow through the coil 2, the core 9 is moved in the left and right directions, faces the surfaces 6 and 7 and is standstilled at a position where electromagnetic attraction forces in the left and right directions are balanced to each other.
