Abstract:
To provide a particle accelerator for directing a particle beam of charged particles through a stripper foil for removing electrons from the charged particles.SOLUTION: A system includes a particle accelerator 102 configured to direct a particle beam of charged particles along a designated path. The system also includes an extraction device positioned downstream from the particle accelerator 102. The extraction device includes a stripper foil 134 and a foil holder 130 that holds the stripper foil 134. The foil holder 130 is configured to position the stripper foil 134 across the designated path of the particle beam such that the particle beam is incident on the stripper foil 134. The stripper foil 134 is configured to remove electrons from the charged particles, wherein the stripper foil 134 includes a backing layer and a conductive layer stacked with respect to one another. The backing layer includes synthetic diamond.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
