To provide an electronic apparatus capable of ensuring safety in supplying electric power from a battery pack, and of being used by connecting an inexpensive AC adapter with a terminal in common with the battery pack.
A power supply voltage applied through a power supply terminal mounted in common with both the battery pack and the AC adapter is compared with a predetermined determination reference voltage (Step S2). When the power supply voltage is lower than the determination reference voltage, communication is made to a control unit inside the battery pack through a communication terminal. Only when a communication counterpart is determined as a normal battery pack (Step S5), the battery pack is controlled to supply a power supply voltage to the inside of the electronic apparatus (Step S6). Also, when the power supply voltage is higher than the determination reference voltage (Step S2), the power supply voltage is supplied to the inside of the electronic apparatus without need of executing authentication processing (Step S6).
