A start.stop button is light-up-displayed by 'green' by a first lighting up state when a needle bar is in a range wherein a thread setting is possible (S15: Yes), and a foot is at a pressing location (S16: Yes), and also, when the foot is at a retracted location (S16: No), the start.stop button is flicker-displayed by 'red' by a second lighting up state. In the meantime, the start.stop button is flicker-displayed by 'green' by a third lighting up state (S28) when the needle bar is out of the range wherein the thread setting is possible (S15: No), and the foot is at the pressing location (S27: Yes), and when the foot is at the retracted location (S27: No), the start.stop button is light-up- displayed by 'red' by a fourth lighting up state (S29). That is, by these identification displays, which of basic works for a sewing machine such as a needle thread winding work and a thread setting work for a sewing needle is possible or not can be easily recognized.
