PURPOSE: To provide an electronic endoscope device capable of preventing the whole endoscope from fatal failures by providing an abnormality detecting means for detecting the abnormal condition of a water-proof means of the endoscope.

CONSTITUTION: When an endoscope 2 selected according to a position of an object to be detected and photographed is connected to a main body 3 through a connector 4 to activate an electronic endoscope device 1, predetermined pressure is applied from a pressure exerting means 7 to the interior of the endoscope 2 and a signal (information) from a pressure sensor 5 is amplified by an amplifying section 8 so that a pressure detecting section 9 starts to detect the variation of the predetermined pressure according to the amplified signal. A judging section 10 judges whether or not any abnormality happens on the basis of a detecting signal from the pressure detecting section 9. In the abnormal case, an abnormality signal is outputted to operate an informing means 11 and informs/an operator of the abnormal condition. According to the electronic endoscope device, cracks or the like in a water-proofing means can be confirmed without the use of a leak tester before and after the use of the endoscope or before disinfection, and the abnormal condition of the water-proofing means can be detected even when the image of object to be photographed is being photographed.
