To provide an electronic endoscope which is an electronic endoscope to display the character information based on character information signals together with a subject image on a monitor device by superposing the character information signals on video signals and is constituted in such a manner that the display position in displaying the character information on the monitor device can be arbitrarily changed on a user side.

The electronic endoscope device has a scope 10 which has an image pickup sensor 26 for photoelectrically converting the subject image to image signals, an image signal processing unit 12 which forms the video signals from the image signals and the monitor device 16 which displays the subject image in accordance with the resultant image signals. A character information signal superposing means 36 superposes the character information signals on the video signals and displays the character information based on the character information signals together with the subject image on the monitor device. A display position changing means (Figure 17) changes the display position in displaying the character information on the monitor device.
