To provide a new method and a new device for electronic mail regarding the presence/absence of an attached file.

When a user indicates the transmission of an electronic mail message, the message is scanned so as to determine whether the message includes an attached file display term. The display term of an attached file generally indicates that an attached file is present in the message when it is present in the electronic mail message. When the message includes the attached file display term, it is determined whether the message actually includes the attached file. When no attached file display term is included, a prompt for a transmission confirmation request is sent to the user, who is given a chance to send the message regardless of the prompt or return to a generation screed for attaching a file which is delete by mistake. When the return to the generation screen is made, the attached file display term is discriminated by the user, for example by being emphasized and displayed.
