PURPOSE: To make visual confirmation of printing position available by a method wherein printing means is moved to a position which is indicated by a cursor under an article editing mode and on which actual printing is to be made.

CONSTITUTION: When there is an existing article in operation under an article editing mode, said article is displayed on a display unit. Immediately after the operation comes under the article editing mode, a cursor indicates a letter positioned in the forefront of said article. Such situation is shown in an attached 'display example' (A), wherein the cursor is in the position (a) on a display part 8 of a display means 7. Then a printing position for a letter to be printed on the position (a) on which the cursor is positioned is calculated by an operational control device 6. The left end (X) in the horizontal direction for a printable area is obtained by moving a printing means 3 and a printing position-moving means 4. And a printing position (Y) that is to be determined when the uppermost line of a sheet 9 is made to be an original point is obtained in the vertical direction. The positions (X) and (Y) obtained by the above-mentioned operations are then given to the printing position-moving means 4 and a sheet-feeding means 5, and the printing means 3 is moved to the positions (X)(Y). Namely, the positions (X)(Y) are shown as coordinates for letters to be printed on the sheet 9 placed within the scope of the printable area.
