PURPOSE: To prevent the erroneous typing of a date, by a method wherein a date key is provided to an electronic typewriter while a date counting type clock circuit is mounted therein and date printing is performed on the basis of the obtained date data.

CONSTITUTION: A keyboard 2, a cover switch 12, a home position switch 13, a mode switch 14 and a date counting type clock circuit 15 are respectively connected to a first input output control interface 16. When the key input of a date key 10 is performed, for example, date data is called out from a clock circuit 15 to be stored in the buffer of RAM38 and a wheel mode driver 17, a carriage motor driver 18 and weak impact solenoids 20, 21 are controlled on the basis of said date data to perform date printing to printing paper. Because only the date key 10 may be subjected to key input without performing key input every character in order to print the date data, key manipulation becomes extremely simple and there is no possibility for bringing a typing error.
