PURPOSE: To provide the electronic video system in which a picture with high quality is obtained by effectively correcting distortion aberration independently of the magnitude of the distortion aberration in existence in an image pickup optical system.

CONSTITUTION: The system is made up of an image pickup optical system 8 generating a negative distortion aberration, an image pickup element 9, and an electric signal processing unit 10 receiving an electric signal from the image pickup element 9 and correcting the negative distortion aberration caused in the image pickup optical system, and the electric signal processing unit 10 is provided with a means approximating the magnification of the image pickup optical system 8 to a condition expressed in Eq.(1) and with a means expanding a surrounding part of an image and reducing the center of the image based on a condition expressed in Eq.(2) to correct the negative distortion aberration; β=aβ0+β1y+β2y2+β3y3+...
