Abstract:

To provide an electrooptic apparatus in which luminance unevenness in a vertical direction can be suppressed by simple configuration, a method for driving the electrooptic apparatus, and electronic equipment.

A liquid crystal display device 20 is equipped with a potential generation circuit 50 which generates an off potential VSS of a plurality of scanning signals differing in the potential for each of the scanning lines Y1 to Ym and a line changeover signal generation circuit 60 for changing over the VSSY for each of the scanning lines. The VSSY supplied to the gate of the TFT disposed at each pixel 25 is gradually lowered for each of the scanning lines. The leakage currents of the respective TFTs become smaller with the TFTs of the lower pixels within an active matrix section 21 and therefore the vertical luminance unevenness is suppressed. The potential generation circuit 50 sets the reference voltage for gradually lowering the VSSY for each of the scanning lines by taking the light leakage of the respective TFTs into consideration. The Ids-Vgs characteristics of the respective TFTs change with a change in the amount of the light incident on the respective TFTs and temperature and the degradation in the contrast by the light leakage is suppressed as well.
