To prevent deterioration of durability due to light fatigue or the like without impairing fundamental electrophotographic characteristics by incor porating a compound lower in ionization potential than a charge transfer mate rial in a photosensitive layer.
The photosensitive layer formed on a conductive substrate contains a charge generating material and the charge transfer material and the compound lower in the ionization potential than the charge transfer material, and this compound can be embodied by a light fatigue preventer. Since it is lower in the ionization potential than the charge transfer material, it is excited by light sooner than the transfer material, and the excitation energy is transferred from the transfer material to the light fatigue preventer and disappears there, thus permitting deterioration and decomposition of the transfer material by light to be prevented. This light fatigue preventer is used, preferably, in an amount of about 5-45 weight % of the charge transfer material contained in the photosensitive layer.
