To form a sharp image without an out-of-focus state and without decreasing or scattering light which exposes an image from inside by specifying the range of surface roughness of a transparent substrate where a photosensitive layer is formed.
This electrophotographic photoreceptor has a photosensitive layer on a transparent substrate, and the surface roughness of the transparent substrate where the photosensitive layer is formed is controlled to have ≤0.25μm Rz and ≤0.5μm Rmax, wherein Rmax (max, height) is the distance between the highest peak and the lowest bottom in a specified horizontal length L and Rz (ten-point average roughness) is the difference between the average height of 5 peaks and average depth of 5 bottoms in a horizontal length L. If the surface roughness of the base body does not satisfy the above ranges, sometimes irregular density of coating is caused wen a photosensitive layer is applied in the production process of a photoreceptor. By smoothening the surface to obtain ≤0.25μm Rz and ≤0.5μm Rmax, the obtd. photoreceptor shows high image quality.
