PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophotographic photoreceptor which has high mechanical strength while having excellent solvent cracking resistance, has a good electric resistance characteristic regarding direct charge, and is easy to manufacture because of a small photo memory by making the surface layer of the electrophotographic photoreceptor contain a polyarylate resin having a specific repeating unit with a specific molecular weight distribution. SOLUTION: A surface layer of an electrophotographic photoreceptor contains a polyarylate resin having a repeating unit represented by the formula, with a molecular weight distribution Mw/Mn of 3.0 or less. In the formula, X is -CR13R14-(R13 and R14 are hydrogen atom, a methyl group that can be substituted, an ethyl group, propyl group, or phenyl group, or a cyclopentylidene group or cyclohexylidene group, both of which are formed by the bonding together of R13 and R14), a methylene group that can be substituted, an ethylene group, fluorene group, or the like. Also, R1 to R12 are hydrogen atom, halogen atom, a methyl group that can be substituted, ethyl group, propyl group, or the like.
