PURPOSE: To enhance the fatigue characteristics of an electrophotographic receptor without deteriorating other characteristics, by applying energy to vapor or a vapor-depisited layer of Se or an Se alloy so as to adjust the amount of monoclinic Se in the photosensitive layer of the receptor to a specified percentage of the total amount of Se.
CONSTITUTION: High-purity Se or an Se-Te alloy 5 in a boat 3 is evaporated by heating with a heating element 4, and the vapor 6 is deposited on an electrically conductive cylindrical substrate 1 after further applying heat energy from a heating element 7 such as a W wire sealed in a quartz tube between the substrate 1 and an evaporation vessel 2. The whole surface of a vapor-deposited layer 10 formed without using the heating element 7 may be irradiated with electron beams 9 from an electron gun 8 by moving the gun 8 back and forth in the arrow B direction while rotating the substrate 1 in the arrow A direction. Thus, the amount of monoclinic Se is adjusted to 55W80wt% of the total amount of the monoclinic Se and hexagonal Se, and a receptor whose residual potential is hardly increased even after repeated use is obtd.
