To provide an elevator car which can facilitate maintenance work in the top part of the car wherein an air conditioner is installed and improve maintenance work efficiency.

An air conditioner 3 is installed in an elevator car, and a scaffolding 7 for maintenance is fitted onto the box structure 8 of the air conditioner 3 so as to be displaced freely and is normally disposed at a retreat position and at a deployment position corresponding to the top surface position of the box structure 8 of the air conditioner 3 in a required case. A worker gets on the top position of the box structure 8 of the air conditioner 3 with the scaffolding 7 for maintenance disposed at the retreat position at the time of maintenance work to conduct maintenance of the air conditioner 3 from the maintenance opening 4 of the air conditioner 3. By disposing the scaffolding 7 for maintenance at the deployment position and using the top position of the box structure 8 or the scaffolding 7 for maintenance at the time of maintenance work, it is possible to conduct maintenance work of the hoistway of an elevator without getting on and off a step.
