PURPOSE: To obtain a small-sized elevator device having the simple constitution, permitting the reduction of the power cost.

CONSTITUTION: A spiral guide rail 2 is arranged over plural floors. A staircase body 4 is formed by connecting a plurality of steps 3, and the staircase body 4 is installed in shiftable manner on the guide rail 2. A step accommodating guide rail part 5 for accommodating the steps 3 of the staircase body 4 into the upper and lower edges of the guide rail 2 is installed so as to be continuous to the guide rail 2. An elevator means 6 for vertically shifting a plurality of steps 3 of the staircase body 4 is installed. Accordingly, the rising and lowering as on an escalator are enabled by vertically raising and lowering the staircase body 4 along the guide rail 2 by the elevator means 6.
