To provide a method for applying an emboss pattern to a metal can and an emboss pattern applying device where, when an emboss pattern 11 in which polygonal unit emboss faces 11a are continued to the circumferential direction is applied to the circumferential wall of a can barrel 10 made of aluminum, the generation of a double strike which is the phenomenon that a part of the unit emboss faces is slipped and lapped by subjecting a part of the circumferential wall to working for two times is prevented.
The outside diameter of an inner roll 20 is made slightly smaller than the inside diameter of a can barrel 10, and, on the outer circumferential face of the inner roll 20, unit emboss faces 22 by the number same as that of the unit emboss faces 11a in the circumferential direction of the emboss pattern 11 to be applied to the can barrel are engraved. Also, in the positions other than the emboss applying region, slippage prevention materials 24 are attached to the inner roll 20, and, in a state where the slippage prevention materials 24 are pressure-welded to the internal surface of the can barrel 10, the inner roll 20 and an outer roll 30 are relatively rotated, thus, as the slippage in the circumferential direction of the can barrel 10 to the inner roll 20 is prevented, emboss application working is performed.
