To provide an emergency releasing device used in an elevator for passengers, functioning certainly at manipulation, easy to actuate, manufacturable at a favorable cost, and capable of being operated manually.

The present invention includes an elevator driving device and driving elements of manual manipulation type to move an elevator car through an operating element to release disengage brakes 21 and 25 for the elevator driving device to be actuated through coupling therewith. The driving elements consist of crank devices 16 and 17, deflection shaft 15, and crown gear transmitting devices 1, 2, 3 to be changed over. A changeover or coupling of the crown gear transmitting devices 1, 2, 3 is conducted by a handle 14 having toggle joint mechanism, cable pulls 12 and 13, and an engaging fork 11. The crank devices 16 and 17 are fitted with a handle 18 which can remotely operate the brake release through cable pulls 19 and 29.
