PURPOSE: To bring the forms of sparks to be suitable for a specific analysis to perform by measuring the current passing through the sparks by a resistor and a comparator and making the amplitudes of the various parts of the sparks independently changeable.

CONSTITUTION: A spark generator contains a DC supply, crosses a spark gap between an electrode 3 and a sample 4 and is connected via a transistor switch 22, an inductance 23 and an initiator 24. A current passing through the spark gap is measured by a resistor 25 and a comparator 26, and the measured current is compared with a standard current supplied from the memory of a computer 1 via a digital-to-analog converter 27. A comparison between the measured current and the reference current is performed every 10 microseconds, and the transistor switch 22 is opened or closed by a driver 28 depending on whether the measured current is larger or smaller than the reference current. It is thus possible to bring the forms of the sparks to be suitable for a specific analysis.
