PURPOSE: To provide an emulsion cosmetic containing an oleophilic polyglycerol condensed hydroxyfatty acid ester, causing little skin irritation, giving excellent feeling to the skin and having high stability.
CONSTITUTION: The objective cosmetic contains 0.1-10wt.% of an oleophilic polyglycerol condensed hydroxyfatty acid ester of formula I [at least one R1 is condensed ricinoleyl of formula II (r is 3-6) or condensed 12-hydroxystearic acid residue of formula III (s is 3-6) and the others are H; q is 2-10], 1-40wt.% of an amphiphatic lipid (e.g. higher fatty acid) and 20-90wt.% of water and other water-soluble solvents in total. The above components are properly compounded with conventional cosmetic additives such as oil, emulsifier, powder, humectant, ultraviolet absorber, colorant and perfumery and formed in a desired form by conventional method. Excellent humectant effect on the skin can be attained by the addition of the amphiphatic lipid which is an intercellular lipid.
