To provide an emulsion or suspension making method capable of making an emulsion or suspension of a uniform particle size.
The method of making an emulsion or suspension having a controlled particle size includes steps of: causing water-insoluble inorganic fine particles having a mean particle size of 5-30 nm to adsorb a saturated adsorption amount of 80-100 mass% of water-soluble hydroxyalkyl alkyl cellulose and/or water-soluble alkyl cellulose in water; mixing it with a water-insoluble liquid; and stirring it by a stirring device. The emulsion or suspension having the uniform particle size in the narrow range of 1-10 m, which is difficult to be controlled in the prior arts, can be obtained, and can be utilized in emulsification, suspension polymerization or the like for making an emulsion composition and a polymer compound in fields such as food and cosmetics.
