To provide a method for producing an emulsion for vibration damping material, capable of forming a coating film which exerts superior vibration damping properties in a wide temperature range, an emulsion for vibration damping material obtained by the method, and a coating material composition.
The method for producing an emulsion for vibration damping material includes: step (1) of obtaining a polymer (X) by emulsion-polymerizing an acrylic monomer mixture (X) including tert-butyl methacrylate; and step (2) of emulsion-polymerizing an acrylic monomer mixture (Y) including tert-butyl methacrylate in a dispersion liquid including the polymer (X). The difference between glass transition temperature (TgX) of the polymer (X) obtained by emulsion-polymerizing the acrylic monomer mixture (X) and the glass transition temperature (TgY) of the polymer (Y) obtained by emulsion-polymerizing the acrylic monomer mixture (Y) is 50°C or lower. The emulsion for vibration damping material obtained by the method and the coating material composition including the emulsion for vibration damping material are also provided.
