To provide a fixing belt excellent in deformation performance such as recession and restoration at a position where it comes into contact with a pressure roller though its base is made of metal.
The fixing belt 3 running in a state where it is endlessly laid over a driven pulley 7 and a driving pulley 5 and recessed by the pressure roller 9 is constituted of a cylindrical braided mesh 17 obtained by braiding metallic wires 17a (warp) and 17b (weft) made of stainless steel and a sheet 19 made of rubber or synthetic resin and coated with the braided mesh in an embedded state. Therefore, the deformation performance of the braided mesh is the same as that of the metallic wires 17a and 17b themselves though the braided mesh is a metallic flat belt as a whole. Therefore, bend fatigue caused with the recession and the restoration is restrained to be extremely small, and the deformation is very softly and smoothly performed and sound associated with the deformation is not produced. Since the thickness of the belt and the array pitch of the metallic wire are made constant over the entire periphery with high accuracy, irregularity is not found in thermal and electrical characteristic on the entire periphery, whereby irregularity is not caused in thermal and electrical action on a work.
