Abstract:

To provide a flexible foam composition based on a double metal cyanide catalyzed polyol which is more advantageous regarding the cost and the performance than conventional foam produced with a basic polyol or a KOH catalyzed polyol.

Energy absorbing flexible foam is produced by reacting (a) an organic polyisocyanate with (b) a blended polyol comprising (i) at least a first and a second polyol, (ii) a foaming agent and (iii) at least one catalyst. The first polyol is prepared at least in part by an active double metal cyanide catalyst and has a functionality of 1.9 or more, and the second polyol is prepared at least in part by a basic or acidic catalyst and has a functionality of about 1.0 - about 6.0.
