Title:
ENERGY ABSORBING MEMBER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2010249236
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To improve an energy absorbing member made of an aluminum alloy extruded material comprising an inner wall which is connected to a hexagonal or octagonal outer peripheral wall so as to enable it to absorb a lot of amount of energy while making its weight lighter than prior art.

In cross section perpendicular to extruded direction, the energy absorbing member includes the hexagonal outer peripheral wall composed of external sides 1-6 and three internal sides 13-15 which connect to the central section of each opposite sides of the outer peripheral wall and intersect with each other at one place. If compressively deforming the energy absorbing member in axial direction, a portion which is interposed by place of connection with the inner wall among two sides adjoining by interposing each vertexes of the outer peripheral wall (inflection sides 22-27 interposed by adjacent linked node) buckles and deforms in the same direction as inside or outside of closed cross section of the outer peripheral wall by adapting each of the vertexes as "antinode" of buckling deformation, respectively.
