To reduce capacity and size of a rudder stock driving device of a steering apparatus, and to save space, to save energy and to reduce cost concerning the rudder stock driving device.
An oil pump 28 is constantly operated to suck working oil o from an oil tank 24, and the working oil is accumulated so that the working oil is in a pressurized state in an accumulator 30. A rudder stock 12 is turned by supplying the working oil o from the accumulator 30 to an oil chamber 22a or 22b via a switching valve 36 during the steering operation. The rudder stock 12 is not directly turned by the oil pump 28, and the rudder stock 12 is turned with the high-pressure working oil o accumulated in the accumulator 30. Thus, the capacity and the size of the oil pump 28 can be reduced. Accordingly, the space and energy of the rudder stock driving device can be saved, and the cost thereof can be reduced.
