To provide an engagement device capable of both suppressing wrong disengagement in an engagement state and facilitating disengagement in such a case.
An engagement device 1 includes dog teeth 10 of a piece 5 arranged around a rotary shaft 3, dog teeth 9 of a sleeve 4 engaging the dog teeth 10 through axial movement of the rotary shaft 3, and a motor 2 capable of applying torque to the dog teeth 10 in a rotating direction. The dog teeth 9, 10 have only tooth faces 9a, 10a, engaging each other during engagement, formed in reverse tapered shapes along the axial direction of the rotary shaft 3. The motor 2 applies reverse taper-using torque in a direction in which the tooth faces 9a, 10a come into contact with each other under the command of an ECU 8 when the dog teeth 9 of the sleeve 4 and the dog teeth 10 of the piece 5 engage each other, and applies backlash gathering torque in a direction in which the tooth faces 9a, 10a separate from each other when the dog teeth 9 of the sleeve 4 and the dog teeth 10 of the piece 5 disengage from each other.
