Abstract:

To smoothly perform a restart by surely leaving fuel in cylinders even if a timing of stopping an engine is deviated in a device feeding start fuel to the cylinders to be in expansion and compression strokes respectively by an intake port injection in stopping the engine and igniting the fuel to the cylinder in the restarting.

When automatically operating the engine 1, this engine automatic stopping/starting control device forecasts (estimates) the start cylinders #A and #B to be the expansion stroke and the compression stroke after the stop respectively and injects the fuel at a prescribed timing by a fuel injection valve so as to leave the fuel in the cylinders #A and #B respectively. After performing the first injection of the start fuel, this device forecasts the start cylinder again and the start fuel is injected and fed based on the latest estimation result. When the forecast results of the start cylinders #A and #B are changed after performing the first injection, an EGR valve 44 is fully closed so as to prevent the fuel from exhausting from the cylinder in the exhaust stroke to the atmosphere via an intake channel 24 after stopping the engine.
