To provide an exhaust emission control device of an engine for carrying out regeneration control of a filter by heating the filter by post injection of fuel, wherein the regeneration control of a filter can be satisfactorily achieved while controlling oil dilution caused by post-injected fuel.
An oxidation catalyst 42 for burning unburnt fuel in exhaust gas and a filter 45 for collecting particulates in exhaust gas are provided to an exhaust passage 23 of an engine 1. When the particulate collecting amount of the filter 45 exceeds the regeneration start collecting amount, fuel is post-injected from the fuel injection valve 17 in an expansion or exhaust stroke following the main injection near the top dead center of compression. By so doing, the post-injected unburnt fuel is burnt by the oxidation catalyst 42 to heat the filter 45 so as to burn and remove collected particles. In this case, by estimating the degree of dilution of engine oil O caused by past post-injected fuel, the regeneration execution permitting range of the filter 45 is reduced as estimated degree of dilution becomes larger so as to control the regeneration control and post injection.
