Abstract:

PURPOSE: To shorten the overall length of an I-type engine by a method wherein a power transmission member for driving an auxiliary machine is disposed in an unnecessary connecting rod disposing space formed as a result of a crank shaft for an I-type (series a plurality of cylinders type) engine to a plurality of the crank shafts of a V-type engine.

CONSTITUTION: In an I-type engine E, a bank is disposed to the upper part of a skirt part and only the side in the direction of width of a cylinder block. In this case, A crank shaft 99 is pivotally supported to a plurality of bearing parts 7, disposed at intervals of a specified distance in the longitudinal direction of the cylinder block, by means of bearing caps 8 to form a crank shaft bearing part 10. In which case, for example, an oil pump 17 is disposed as an auxiliary machine on the other side in the direction of width of the engine E based on the crank shaft 9. An oil pump 17 is driven by means of the crank shaft 9 through a chain 19. Meanwhile, a gear 12, sprockets 13 (a and b), and chains 19 and 25 are disposed in a space 28 becoming unnecessary for disposing a connecting rod.
