Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To guarantee switching operation having high reliability in all the operating range of an engine by providing with a first switching means freely to switch a high speed cam follower member into a first rocker arm in a connecting/disconnecting condition, and a second switching means freely to switch a second rocker arm into the first rocker am in the connecting/disconnecting condition.
SOLUTION: At the time of high rotational speed operation, a first solenoid valve 23 is driven by a control unit 21, oil pressure is supplied to a first oil pressure passage 6a, and thereby, a first piston member 11 is projected from a main rocker arm 1, and the engaging end 10A of a first lever member 10 is engaged with the locking part 9B of a high rotational speed cam follower member 9. As a result, the main rocker arm 1 and an auxiliary rocker arm are oscillated following with the cam profile of a high rotational speed cam 8C through the high rotational speed cam follower member 9, and two valves 3, 4 are opened/closed at a head which is suitable for high rotational speed operation. On the other hand, at the time of low rotational speed operation, it is shut out that pressure oil is supplied to a second piston member 14 through a second solenoid valve 24, and connection of the main and auxiliary rocker arms is released.
