To provide an automated engraving apparatus, wherein a plurality of motors or the like are not necessary in the case of retrieving a proper workpiece from a storage area, engraving and discharging the workpiece, which is simply constituted, easily maintained, and reduced in size, thereby, the installation area of which is reduced.
The engraving apparatus for engraving a workpiece selected by a user. The workpiece is contained in storage columns 40 and biased into a shuttle 32 by a spring system mounted externally to each storage column 40. The shuttle 32 is moved by the engraver 22 between loading, engraving and discharging positions. The workpiece is clamped during the engraving process by a piston and cam arrangement, which provides the desired clamping force, yet can be disengaged to facilitate movement of the shuttle 32 by the engraver 22.
