Abstract:
To provide an entropy coding scheme which achieves better compression efficiency at a moderate coding complexity.SOLUTION: An entropy decoding apparatus comprises a recombiner 220 and a composer 224. The recombiner obtains a first subsequence 204 and a second subsequence 208 of a source symbol sequence 218 on the basis of, a codeword from a single bit stream 228. The source symbols of the first subsequence and the second subsequence are related to level values of transform coefficients of transform blocks. The recombiner obtains source symbols of the first subsequence using arithmetic context-based entropy coding, and obtains source symbols of the second subsequence using exponential-Golomb codes. The composer is configured to obtain syntax elements having a value range which is sub-divided into a plurality of partitions by combining values of a set of source symbols obtained from the first subsequence and the second subsequence, on the basis of a part related to the syntax elements, to determine values of the syntax elements.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2a
