To provide an epoxidation catalyst, which can produce an epoxy compound in the high selectivity and yield by using, as a raw material, an unsaturated compound in spite of the contained substituent species, and a method of producing an epoxy compound using the catalyst.
The epoxidation catalyst of the unsaturated compound in the presence of an organic hydroperoxide, characterized in that a metal oxide containing a magnesium is a carrier and a molybdenum oxide is carried is provided. Further, the method of producing the epoxy compound in which the unsaturated compound and the organic hydroperoxide react under the presence of the catalyst in which the metal oxide containing the magnesium is a carrier and the molybdenum oxide is carried is provided. The method of producing an epoxy compound in which the organic hydroperoxide is, preferably, a t-butyl hydroperoxide is provided.
