Abstract:
PURPOSE: To satisfactorily perform butt welding of sheets by displacing clamps to hold two sheets in the relative inclination and height directions between both sheets.
CONSTITUTION: A backing metal 6 movable vertically is provided between outlet side and inlet side clamping devices 4 and 5 supports selectively the lower surfaces of strips 2 and 3. In addition, auxiliary clamping devices 8 and 9 are provided at the outlet side and inlet side and hold butt ends of both strips 2 and 3 with the backing metal 6 attached to execute positioning at the time of welding. The clamping device 4 supports the strip 2 from the upper and lower sides by upper side and lower side cylinders 11a-11c. The clamping device 5 also has the same structure and the height and inclination of the strips 2 and 3 can be displaced separately. Consequently, even if warps and sags by cutting are caused on the sheets, the height can be coincident in parallel with the butt ends and a satisfactory weld bead shape can be obtained.
