In a recording system 100, a data series is distributed to plural error correction coders 1-N including at least two error correction codes different in the error corrective ability in one bit or plural bits unit before or after a recording code is modulated, and the distributed bit strings are subjected to the error correction coding by respective error correction codes. In a reproducing system 120, the error positional information obtained when the series is decode-corrected by the error correction code having the highest error corrective obility is utilized for erasure correction by means of another error correction code, thereby enhancing the precision of the erasure correction.
