PURPOSE: To minimize interruption of software error processing procedures to the data processing operation by confirming whether a fault hinders the continuously reliable operation of a data processing system or not.
CONSTITUTION: A fault tolerant computer system 10 has duplicate systems consisting of zones 11 and 11', and zones 11 and 11' are simultaneously operating in the normal mode. CPU modules 30 and 30' of duplicate processing systems 20 and 20' communicate with I/O modules 100, 110, 120, 100', 110', and 120' A data processing module where a fault occurs is discriminated; and if the operation cannot be surely continued because of the characteristic of the fault, this module is disabled together with the data processing system. If the operation can be surely continued regardless of the fault, this faulty module is prevented from bringing about a fault again.
