PURPOSE: To provide an escalator on which a passenger can optionally select his destination floor by means of the escalator going up and down at the time of using the escalator and which can improve transport efficiency.

CONSTITUTION: This escalator is constituted of a step 4a in the upper floor direction provided between a lower floor 2 and an upper floor 1, a step 4b in the lower floor direction provided between an intermediate floor 6 and the lower floor 2 or the upper floor 1, a drive mechanism 8 to drive the step 4a in the upper floor direction and the step 4b in the lower floor direction and an interlocking part to interlock the step 4a in the upper floor direction and the step 4b in the lower floor direction.
