A pair of wheels 9 are respectively rotatably arranged on both sides of plural footboards 6 connected in an endless shape so that the respective wheels 9 are rollingly guided along a footboard rail. In this case, while generators 16 are arranged on respective footboards 6, LEDs 27 are installed on the upper surfaces of the footboards 6 so that the generators 16 are connected to the LEDs 27 through a circuit board 14 having a weight switch 28. When operating an escalator, electric power is generated by rotating output shafts of the generators 16 since the wheels 9 roll on the footboard rail. When the weight switch 28 is put in a closed state on the footboard 6-exposed passenger side, the LEDs 27 are made to emit the light. While, the LEDs 27 are put out by opening the weight switch 28 on the footboard 6-reversing reversal side.
