PURPOSE: To utilize an escalator as the escape stair by constituting a fire limit having high fire resistance performance in the peripheral space of the escalator without impairing the open space of the escalator.

CONSTITUTION: Columns 3 are erected on four sides of the circumference of the escalator A located between certain stories and heat shieldable glass screens 1 are arranged between the front and rear columns 3 of both flanks of the escalator A. Fire doors 2 provided with the heat shieldable glass are openably and closably supported in the upper and lower positions of the escalator A. Further, fire alarms 5 are mounted at the fire doors 2 and the doors are provided with door closing devices 2a to be actuated by the transmitted signals thereof.
