PURPOSE: To provide the stable polymers each of which consists of a specific structural unit and has a specific reduced viscosity and also, is soluble in a solvent such as halogenated hydrocarbon or cyclic ketone.
CONSTITUTION: Each of the objective polymers has a structural unit represented by the formula II (wherein: each of the aromatic rings is unsubstituted or substituted with one or more 1-4C alkyl or 1-4C alkoxy groups or the like; Ar is a 1-50C divalent aliphatic, alicyclic or araliphatic functional group or the like; R1 is a 1-30C divalent aliphatic or alicyclic functional group optionally substituted with one or more 1-4C alkyl or 2-6C alkenyl groups or the like or the like; X1 is a direct bond, -SO2-, a group represented by the formula III (wherein: R2 is H or a methyl group; and Q1 is -O-, -NH-, or the like), or the like; and Y1 is a direct bond, -SO2-, a group represented by the formula IV (wherein Q2 is the same as Q1), or the like) and also, a 0.1 to 0.2 dl/g reduced viscosity that is measured at 25°C by using its 1 wt.% solution in N-methylpyrrolidone(NMP). Such a polymer represented by the formula II is prepared by allowing equal moles of a diphenol compound which is represented by the formula I and optionally substituted with a 1-4C alkyl or 1-4C alkoxy group or the like, or the like, and a compound represented by the formula Z1-R1-Z2 (wherein each of Z1 and Z2 is a halogen, F, -SO3H, or the like), to react with each other.
