NEW MATERIAL:The titled compound of formula I (R is 1W10C alkyl; the group of formula II is formula III or formula IV).

EXAMPLE: 2,6-Difluorobenzoic acid trans-4-(trans-4-propylcyclohexyl)-cyclohexyl ester.

USE: A component of liquid crystal composition. It exhibits nematic phase even at a high temperature, and has low viscosity, a dielectric anisotropy (Δ) of about +0.5, and low threshold voltage and saturation voltage irrespective of small dielectric anisotropy. A liquid crystal display element having low driving voltage, small power consumption and high stability to heat, light, moisture, electricity, etc. can be prepared from the compound. Especially, the compound is suitable for the preparation of a composition having high N-I point.

PREPARATION: The compound of formula I is prepared by reacting 2,6-difluoro- benzoyl chloride of formula V with trans-4-(trans-4-alkylcyclohexyl)-cyclohexanol of formula VI, etc. in pyridine.
