Title:
ESTERIFIED, VINYL-ESTER-GRAFTED STARCH
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3008071
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a practically usable biodegradable resin molding without using a plasticizer by subjecting starch to esterification with an esterifying agent derived from a specific acid and to grafting with a polyvinyl ester and by molding a compsn. mainly comprising the resulting esterified, grafted starch.
CONSTITUTION: Starch is esterified and grafted with a polyvinyl ester, then compounded with a biodegradable plasticizer, a filler, etc., and molded into various articles. The esterifying agent used and the graft agent used are each derived from an acid selected from among 2-18C fatty acids and arom. carboxylic acids, 2-4C fatty acids being esp. pref. The degree of esterification is 0.1 or higher from the viewpoint of moisture absorption and moldability and is 2.8 or lower from the viewpoint of biodegradability. The graft ratio is 50wt.% or lower. The esterification is conducted by using a vinyl ester and a specific catalyst and may be conducted before or after the grafting, which is conducted by using a free-radical initiator. Also a commercially available intermediate may be used.
