Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an estimation method for an epicentral distance and a magnitude and a device therefor capable of estimating the epicentral distance and the magnitude from parameters obtained by quantifying the shape of a wave form by fitting it by a simple function having several parameters.
SOLUTION: This estimation device for the epicentral distance and the magnitude is provided with: a seismometer 1; a memory 14 for storing digital wave form data of first ground movement from the seismometer 15 and a parameter calculation part 15 for removing an offset, taking the absolute value of the data, smoothing the wave form, fitting it with an equation of y=Bt.e-At to obtain the parameters A and B, finding the epicentral distance from the found parameter B, and finding the maximum amplitude value within a reference period based on the epicentral distance or the magnitude from the found parameter A.
