Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide ether-based base oil having reduced content concentration of sulfur causing sludge generation although obtained by a method using sulfur-based acid catalyst for enhancing productivity, a lubricating oil composition containing the ether-based base oil and a method of producing the ether-based base oil.SOLUTION: There is provided the ether-based base oil obtained by an acetalization reaction of aldehyde (A) having 8 to 12 carbon atoms and alcohol (B) having 8 to 12 carbon atoms with blended amounts satisfying following conditions (I) and (II) in the presence of an acid catalyst (C) containing an aromatic sulfonic acid compound and an organic solvent (D) having a boiling point of 100°C or more. Condition (I): the blended amount (X) of the alcohol (B) in terms of hydroxide is 5.0 equivalent or less, the blended amount (X) of the acid catalyst (C) is 4.0 mol% or less and the blended amount (X) of the organic solvent (D) is 10.0 pts.mass or less based on the blended amount of the aldehyde.
