PURPOSE: To obtain the subject new compound, having floral and fruity aromas, high safety and stability and useful in wide fields of various cosmetics, hygienic sanitary materials, medicines, coatings, etc.
CONSTITUTION: Ethyl (1R,6S)-2,2,6-trimethylcyclohexanecarboxylate expressed by formula I. The compound is obtained by reacting an optically active (3S)-7- methoxycitronellal expressed by formula II as a raw material with acetic anhydride, providing an enol acetate, cyclizing the resultant compound with a phosphoric acid catalyst, affording (1R,6S)-2,2,6-trimethylcyclohexanecarbaldehyde expressed by formula III, oxidizing the resultant compound with nitric acid, providing a carboxylic acid, then reacting the prepared carboxylic acid with ethyl bromide in the presence of an equimolar amount of caustic soda and a catalytic amount of a quaternary ammonium salt and esterifying the resultant reactional product.
